Part 4 on Being a Frugal Renegade in The New Year! (Final Chapter)
Posted by: KarenLynn I have a renewed sense of purpose in regards to my frugality in the new year! Yes I still have inner conflicts from time to time with my “consumerist” side and my “frugalite” side! It can be awful actually sometimes. Case in point I was determined to get a new shower curtain for our main bathroom (the one our guests see!) and I went to four stores and then remembered that I had made a commitment on Frugal Families to be a Diva for a year (that is where we do not buy anything new unless it is our last resort!). I have made this commitment with the exception of clothing and of course consumables or anything that just has to be bought brand new such as a new heatpump for this coming year in 2009. Anyways I realized while I was out shopping that I had made this commitment to being a Diva and in the meantime my husband is making comments on how wasteful it is to get a new shower curtain when the shower curtain we have is perfectly functional and in good shape! Oooooh I was so mad and I was really mad at myself if I am to be completely honest! I was really not mad at my husband although I never told him. I realized that I had made a commitment to myself to be Diva and every consumerist cell in my being wanted that new shower curtain. Well I did not buy it and I am not going to buy it. I am going to clean the shower curtain I have and replace the liner with a spare one that I had purchased last year. I then found a tutorial at Ecologue.com to make my own bath mat using materials I already have around the house. You see being a Diva at Frugal Families is about taking what we have already and making do, it’s about leaving a more gentler footprint on this earth. It’s about tapping into new creative talent you might not have known you had. Being a Diva at Frugal Families has given me a renewed sense of purpose to implement my renegade strategies in 2009. Do you dare to be a Diva?
