Faith-filled reading
Posted by: TammyOkay, I got some good news on my knee injury. The MRI showed no tears that will require surgery but the knee is sprained. I see another orthopedic surgeon Monday morning to get more information on how best to proceed (I’m trying to remember that if I have nothing nice to say about a certain orthopedic doc that the good one is with in, then I shouldn’t say anything at all). I don’t know how bad the sprain is other than it does NOT require surgery and it will take 6-8 weeks for this to heal.
I’m trying to NOT focus on how bad the timing of this injury is. I’m trying to remember that, “all thing work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Knowing I’d have time to spend reading, I hobbled into the Christian bookstore while I was in town for my MRI and picked up a few books to help open my eyes to more of the Bible. I found a wonderful set of books which help you to find God’s answers for various aspects of life. I bought the “TouchPoints for Women” book. It touches upon various things that a woman might seek Biblical answers for like, “Renewal: How can I experience renewal in my life?” and then points you to specific scripture which provides answers to that question. Some of the topics they touch upon are faith, decisions, relationships, gentleness, contentment, marriage and more. There were TouchPoint books for addicts, men, troubled times, students, leaders, Bible promises and for those hurting. It’s been a wonderful little book which leads me to scriptures I wasn’t aware of.
I also bought a Bible Concordance. So many times, I know there is a scripture which refers to a key word but I can’t remember where it is located. The Concordance helps you find scriptures containing the key word(s) you have in mind. I did get the smaller, more condensed version simply because they can be a very large book (think heavy dictionary or encyclopedia) and I wanted to make sure I could keep everything together in my Bible case.
This extra time with His word has been the good to come out of this injury. My dear Christian sister, Stephanie also helped me to realize how the Word is living. As I mature and open my heart to Him, I come to understand more and understand more deeply. Today, one scripture might mean one thing to me but tomorrow, events and maturity will help me see it differently. It’s the Living Word. I’ve also come to realize that reading the scriptures daily feeds a part of me that I didn’t realize was hungry for more. Truly it has been good.
