First, let me say that tuna has been a pretty good bargain for a long time.  I’ve been tracking prices for years, and I am still able to get tuna for 49¢ a can - same as years ago.  A lot of the time, I need to go to Aldi or Save-A-Lot to get that price, but the grocery stores tend to put it on sale for 49¢ a can quite frequently.

Well, the past few weeks, I’ve been doing better than 49¢ a can, courtesy of the grocery store loss leaders.  Maybe it’s a Lenten special.  But a couple of weeks back, it was 38¢ a can.  I bought several cans, and had planned to get more, but the sale ended.  Before I could kick myself for procrastinating, a different grocery store had it on sale 3 cans for 99¢.  Hmmm…33¢ a can is an even better deal.  The limit was three cans, and I wasted no time in getting my cheaper tuna.

Now, this week - one of the grocery stores has tuna for 28¢ a can.  I am loving this!  I scooped up six more cans of tuna the second day of the sale, and supplies were already getting low.  I mean, 28¢ a can is a great, great price!

I’m not sure the low prices will continue over the next few weeks, or if this is it, and I’ll be back to 49¢ per can tuna.  I do see a lot of tuna sandwiches in our future.  Or cold tuna and noodle salad.  I wish I could use it for casseroles, but that’s where my husband draws the line.  Apparently, he believes that tuna, like revenge, is a dish best served cold.
