Whimsy is Frugal
Posted by: KarenLynnWhen I watch decorating shows I always notice that adding whimsy is usually frugal. Whimsy is thinking outside the box and still seeing magic in the simple things. The things right in front of you.
Definition of whimsy:
Noun
1. pl -sies a fanciful or playful idea: 2. capricious or playful behaviour:
Adding whimsy requires us having to remember our childlike attitudes and thoughts and how we saw beauty in absolutely everything and mystery was just around the corner.
Adding a beautiful seashell on the shelf in the bathroom, or a blue tinted change jar found at a yard sale to a corner of our room. These items grace us with their presence in their simplicty but they bring so much more to our homes, sometimes they bring us back memories and other times they bring us comfort. Our homes really are not required to be show places but surely we would like them to be a haven and refreshing.
Maybe for you adding whimsy is having a wooden spoon collection in an old pottery vase that was your Grandma’s like my friend has or it could be hanging up your favorite prints you have been collecting. I have a beautiful pottery bowl that my Step Mom gave me that doesn’t match the rest of my dining room and it stands out in blue and gray and yet I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Don’t hide your whimsical items place them proudly for others to see!
