Spring flowers

Posted by: Tammy

Several years ago, I noticed color in my then, ugly, nearly lifeless raised beds. It was spring and the color stuck out! I ventured out into the cool April weather and lo and behold, I discovered beautiful flowers. They were similar to my wild Eastern Columbines but instead of the bright yellow and reds, there were pinks, purples and whites. I figured they were also Columbines but I just recently learned they were Colorado Columbines. To be honest, I have no clue how they got there and now I’m giving them away to anyone who will take them. They seem to spread by self-seeding and maybe by shoots. No matter how they got there or how they spread, I truly love the delicate, dangling blossoms that are the first bits of spring color along with my Bleeding Hearts.
