I’ve always loved reading the Sunday paper. Through the years, my favorite parts have changed. I’m one of those people who saves the best for last, so what I read last is what I enjoy most. When I was young, it was the comic section. Well, to be completely honest, when I was very young, that was probably the only section of the paper I read. It evolved over the years - for a while, it was the travel section. For a very short time, the business section. Sometimes, front page.
Now - well, this shopping/bargain geek saves the sale flyers and coupon inserts for last. I even have a specific order for them. Shoot, I have a special routine for all this. It involves Sunday afternoon and lots of good coffee. Why not make it an occasion?
Anyway… first in order are the coupon inserts. I need to know what’s new out there, so I can make the best possible deals with what the stores are advertising.
KMart flyer are next, followed by Target. Truthfully, I’m only looking for great toilet paper deals (this dates back to my son’s seeming love affair with toilet paper. He no longer lives at home, but my obsession continues) or health/beauty stuff that would be a great deal with or without a coupon.
One of the grocery chains still runs sales Monday through Sunday, so they include a sale flyer in the Sunday paper. I read that next. The chains all used to run Monday-Sunday sale periods; I was pretty giddy when I could expect 4 or 5 grocery flyers ALL AT ONCE. Aldi also sometimes has a sale flyer in the Sunday paper. I love Aldi; I love Aldi so much, it’s getting its own blog entry, or several.
Finally…Walgreens. My shopping love affair with Aldi actually is part of a triangle with Walgreens - Walgreens rebates can be absolutely awesome! Also awesome is combining Walgreens coupons with manufacturers coupons. Walgreens also is deserving of its own blog entry. You can count on seeing one in the near future.
My husband has come to expect excited outbursts from me as I peruse the coupon and sales flyers - it’s all part of the Sunday afternoon routine in our house.
