Frugal Breakfast Basics

Breakfast is one of the best places to start when it comes to cutting the waste out of your grocery budget. High priced cereals, and breakfast convenience foods account for a significant portion of the average family's grocery bill. Boxes of cereal at 3 to 4 dollars a box, might last a family of four, for maybe 8 servings, or essentially 2 days. The alternatives are not only very basic, but easy and inexpensive.

FOR STARTERS

Ok lets get started, first a few tips, then some recipes.

1) purchase cereal ONLY on sale, often you can get cereal for 50% or less of its actual retail price. Coupons for cereal are abundant, so it is conceivable that you can get the cereal you normally spend 4$ on for a dollar or less.

2)Shop the lower shelves, or the perimeter of the cereal isle. The cheaper cereals are rarely if ever with in your line of sight. Specifically the bagged cereals are almost always much cheaper, and these days most stores carry a good selection of them. There are also store brands to consider, on sale most are 1.50 or less a box.

3) Hot cereals- can usually also be purchases for considerably less. Don't just check out your grocery store, but check out the area grocery stores you normally don't shop at, wholesale clubs, and even restaurant supply stores. I just recently purchased 50 lbs of oatmeal for 10$ since my family eats a lot of granola and oatmeal, and I use it in baking; it represented a serious savings for us.

4) Most importantly realize that you can make your own breakfasts for a fraction of the cost, of name brand cereals. Granola, pancakes, waffles, French toast, breakfast burritos, just to name a few.

Below you will find the Breakfast recipes.. Make extra ahead of time, and freeze or make them fresh each morning. This becomes a great alternative, for busy families, for wholesome and inexpensive breakfast.
