Italian cookies

This is a recipe from my husband's grandmother.  Grandma N. was born in Italy and my husband fondly remembers watching her make so many Italian classics from scratch like her Italian cookies and ravioli when he would visit her as a child.    I hope you enjoy this recipes!

Italian Cookies

1package condensed mince meat
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 TBS cocoa
1 1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves

Place all of these ingredients into a mixing bowl and add 1 cup of boiling water to soften the mincemeat.

After it has softened, add:

1 cup shortening
4 cups of flour
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup walnuts.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.  Place cookie dough, by the teaspoon onto a greased cookie  sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
